Zanzibar island is also known as Unguja. it’s a semi-autonomous state which united to form Tanzania, it is an archipelago in the Indian ocean it consists of many small islands but two are mainly Unguja and Pemba where Unguja is the capital city and its historic center is Stone Town which is a world heritage site. Stone Town is punctuated with major historical buildings, several of which are found on the seafront; these include former palaces of the sultans, fortifications(Ngome Kongwe), churches, mosques, and other institutional buildings.

What makes Zanzibar famous is its history in the 9th century Swahili merchants on Zanzibar operated as brokers for long-distance trade including the Persian, Indian, and Arabs the goods including gold, ivory, and silver they shipped overseas to Asia the trade resulted in the growth of the town.

Zanzibar has some of the world’s most beautiful diving sights and warm waters. No wonder it is a popular destination for those wanting to explore the underwater world. You can do both shore dives and reef dives accessed by boat. The island is famous for its mixofexoticbeaches, famous spice plantations, endangered species(red colobus monkeys & green turtle), history (Stone Town being the capital), and diverse culture. Apart from that, you can find many delicious plates of seafood at Forodhani grounds.

History of the Zanzibar Islands

Zanzibar became famous since then but also after the colonization of Zanzibar in 1698. Zanzibar came under influence of the sultanate of Oman where Zanzibar became more famous when said bin sultan moved his capital from Muscat to Zanzibar. Since then Zanzibar was favored with the good climatic condition that was favorable for the growth of cloves and coconut and is where the slave trade emerged where slaves also became sold goods and it was one of the biggest slave trade centers until its abolition due to colonialism and independence.
