Serengeti National park is a leading national park in Africa. It is also referred to as the land of the endless plain because it was derived from the “Maasai” word “seringit” meaning “endless plain”. Serengeti hosts the second largest terrestrial mammal migration in the world, which makes it one of the seven natural wonders of Africa and one of the ten natural travel wonders of the world. The protected area within the region includes approximately 30,000 km2 (12,000 sq. mi) of land, including the Serengeti National Park and several game reserves.

The ecosystem is home to over 3,000 Lions, 1,000 African leopards and 7,700 to 8,700 spotted hyenas, The East African cheetahs are also present in Serengeti. Location

The park is found in 320 km toward the northwest of Arusha region lying in a high plateau between the Ngorongoro highlands and the Kenya/ Tanzania border, and extending almost to Lake Victoria to the west.

History of the Serengeti National Park
